Honorine is a 1843 novel. It is part of the Scènes de la Vie Privée (Scenes from Private Life) subseries of La Comédie humaine.
Honorine leaves her husband, count Octave, for a man she falls in love with passionately. They have a child. The man leaves her, however, at the end of a year and a half. The child dies. The count still loves her, and appoints Maurice, the narrator of the story, as a go between. The novel poses a series of questions on the nature of marriage.
The novelistic structure is similar to the one used in La Femme abandonnée and part of La Femme de trente ans. Original elements include the addition of the point of view of the husband, and the complex net in which the separated wife is immersed after the man abandons her, and the narrator's own emotional involvement in the whole affair.
