Honor thy father and mother, one of the Ten Commandments, is the only one which has a conditional promise. If you honor your parents, you will live well and enjoy a long life. Unfortunately, our society no longer esteems aging parents. Even worse, we adult children blame our parents for not being perfect.
This book explores parent-child relationships in a very poignant way. As part of his grieving, the author wrote stories describing his relationship with his parents, focusing on circumstances which surrounded each of his parents' deaths. After writing his father's story and recalling his mother's story written ten years earlier, a common thread surfaced around forgiveness. The author explores parenting, forgiveness, and relationships which form in families.
The importance of forgiveness is highlighted throughout the narrative. God's forgiveness is explained in detail with an emphasis on the redemptive forgiveness God offers through this Son, Jesus Christ.
