About the Author

Kate Madeleine Bottomley (1865-1940) was a Canadian novelist and essayist who also wrote under the pseudonym Vera. She published Honor Edgeworth; or, Ottawa's Present Tense in 1882 and The Doctor's Daughter in 1885: both depicted certain phases of social life and character at the Canadian capital. In 1896 she published Catharine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy. Douglas Lochhead (1922-2011) was a professor emeritus of Mount Allison University.
