Overview

The youngest in a military family, Adam Forseti, followed the footsteps of his father and older brother, Dean, joining the military without question after high school graduation. Coming home from the Iraq war is justification enough for struggling to re-acclimate to normal life. However, Adam's real struggle begins when he returns home and accepts an invitation to live with the only remaining relative in his immediate family, his older brother Dean. Dean wields his generosity over Adam like a hammer, knocking down every gentle attempt to come to a habitable compromise just like their father did growing up. Adam's only relief comes when he chooses homelessness, moving to the woods of a nearby state park. But even in solitude, the imprint of lifelong combat reverberates in Adam with no remedy until the right stranger wanders into Adam's camp at the right time. With an outsider's perspective and a space he can call his own, Adam begins to untangle and rebuild himself for a life he can call his own. But even in solitude, the imprint of a life of mental combat is a heavy burden. Without the comfort of the devil he does know, Adam is forced to look at his coping mechanisms and inherited beliefs on an intimate level.
