Because of the title and cover, I had the slight impression that this was going to be a "Little Red Riding Hood" retelling of some sort, but actually, there's barely any resemblance there other than a couple of easter eggs like the MCs cape or the great grandma living in a cabin in the forest. The book is a completely new concept of what the inspiration source could have been. The book is written in a particular style that makes its characters behave in a way fitting of an anime show.

Her writing voice is great for the YA characters that take the main stage here, but it's also deeply dark and emotional. There's a LOT of heavy material worked into this story, a lot of vitriol and bullying, but the author does an excellent job of weaving it into the plot. Really enjoyed Rosella and Fenris, as well as the rest of the cast, and the setting was fun with the contrast of a dark fairytale forest and modern day high school. Nicely done!

Wow, that escalated quickly. In the best of ways! Wolf's Red is a Red Riding Hood retelling that isn't afraid to drench itself in the darkness of the original Grimm tales. Make sure you check out the content warnings for this one because there's a lot in here. But none of it is used for show. Each dark element contributes to either character or plot. The most important thing here is the characters are real. They make mistakes, they have phobias, they have their own unique voice.
