About the Author

Nicholas E. Burke is a former Officer in the United States Naval Reserve, having received his Commission upon completing Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. He served three years on active duty aboard a Fletcher Class Destroyer, assigned to an Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Task Force Alfa out of Norfolk, Virginia. Following release from active duty, he continued as a Naval Reservist, retiring after thirty-one years of service, with the rank of Captain (0-6). During this lengthy period, he served aboard numerous navy ships, from a small patrol craft, the USS WHITEHALL (PCE 856) on Lake Erie, to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68). He was awarded the prestigious designation of Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) in 1978. Captain Burke is a retired public school teacher and district administrator, living in Ewing, New Jersey.
