HISTORY QUESTERS Colonies Trek
WARNING: You may learn some American history as you go on this time-traveling thrill-packed trek with the History Questers Team.
Time travel—Braxton Morgan had never heard of a secret app for that. But his suspicions, ignited by some pretty weird goings-on in his new history class, were confirmed by a click on Ms. McQuester’s electronic Q-Pad. With little warning, Braxton spirals back in time to the settlement of the 13 English colonies as the newest member of the History Questers Team. It seems that his teacher meant it literally when she said she preferred hands-on history lessons. On their trek through the Colonial Period the team meets some important people from the past, like Pocahontas and Benjamin Franklin, and becomes involved in real historical events—way more involved than they want their teacher to know.
Braxton, who quakes at the thought of meeting new people, believed his biggest challenge would be making friends at his new school. Now he faces Indian attacks in Jamestown, kidnapping into indentured servitude in Boston, accusations of witchcraft in Salem…oh, and how to repair the teams’ accidental alteration of a key event in Philadelphia that could change history forever. Not only must he deal with the historical drama, he also has to deal with the drama caused by the rivalry between his teammates: Jake, the popular dare-devil that he envies; the perceptive Michael who becomes his first friend; and Jo-Jo, the brainy, but snarky girl who was actually pretty soft inside. On his history quest Braxton learns a lot about the colonial era, but in the end, Braxton realizes that the most important thing he learns is about himself.
HISTORY QUESTERS is a 36,000 word Middle Grade novel in which Braxton’s journey of self- discovery parallels the settlement of Colonial America. It is a good read for anyone who loves adventure, friendship and exploration. It is also an ideal choice for educational and classroom use with its hyperlinked index and available student and teacher resources.
