History Of Sociological Thought
Man faces a world of complex social problems. As a result he is perplexed beyond description. His thinking often ends in confusion. In thinking about social problems the so-called practical person has proceeded in his own way. In the strict sense, social thought is the product of the thinking together of associates. Most social thought is of the ordinary dinner table variety, which is casual and desultory. The history of Social thought rises out of the beginnings of human struggle on earth and with jagged edges extends along the full sweep of the changing historical horizon. It finds expression through some of the world’s best minds. Our quest will bring us in contact with the most vital moments of the world’s most valuable thinkers. Despite its youth, inchoateness, and naivete, sociological thought is exerting a vital influence in the world. It is giving a new rating to all the established values of life, undermining some, strengthening others, and creating still others. This book attempts to develop a critical dialogue with the writers of the past and their relevance for today. This valuable book is offering students a path through competing traditions and perspectives that brings out the distinctive value and limitations of these.
