King Charles I only wanted everyone to be on the same page, in the same prayer book. Unfortunately, his realm included a wide variety of people<-->English, Irish, Scots, and Welsh<-->who were not anxious to give up their own ways. Bennett, who has written widely on the event, provides a chronology and reference to the resulting 23-year war that toppled the entire monarchy for a generation. He includes considerable information on the religious and social movements of the period as well as the political and military aspects.
