About the Author

Betty Trapp Chapman, a native of Tupelo, Mississippi, received her B.A. degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. She has spent the past twenty-five years researching, teaching, and writing about the history of Houston. Betty writes a weekly column, Houston Heritage, for the Houston Business Journal and is the author of several books on Houston's history. A frequent lecturer in Rice University's Continuing Studies Program, she has also served as a consultant for a variety of historical projects in the city. She is currently the chairperson of the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission.
