Hercules Finds His Courage: Taki & Toula Time Travelers Book 1 by Elena Paige is the story of Taki and Toula who live in Crete, Greece. One day they decide to dress up in their mother’s old clothes. While going through her chest, they find a strange pair of shoes. Their mother tells them that these shoes are called "tsarouhia" and belonged to their grandfather. They both want to try them on and Taki thinks it is fair if they both try on one shoe each. Something unexpected happens when they try on the shoes. They find themselves in a new place and can you guess who they meet there? Hercules the Great! Hercules tells Taki and Toula that he is not as brave as they think he is and the stories about his bravery are only myths. Will the children be able to help Hercules find his courage? Will they be able to tame the angry bull?



The message conveyed to young readers is excellent and relevant, and encourages children to be brave and have faith in themselves. The illustrations are lively and bright and they give a good pace and movement to the scenes and story. The book is appealing not only for its message, but also the educational content that will tell young readers about the Greek god, Hercules. Stories like this are engaging and entertaining and can be used for bedtime story-telling and read aloud sessions in classrooms.
