David Shapiro is a North Carolina native and autodidact who has returned to his rural roots to live a slower-paced life with his wife, a librarian turned tech worker. As a lifelong storyteller, David draws inspiration from his personal experiences of loss and his favorite media, such as Elite Dangerous, Mass Effect, Ghost in the Shell, and Star Trek.

Before writing his debut novel, Heavy Silver, David published nonfiction books on AI and cognitive architecture. His background as a polyamorous technologist, AI researcher, and futurist has shaped his unique perspective on the world and his writing.

When not writing, David can be found exploring the great outdoors, hiking mountains, climbing, or relaxing on the beach. He is particularly fond of rivers and forests and is always eager to embark on a new adventure.
