About the Author

Miyoko Fuse is a native of Tokyo, Japan who has lived in Portland, Oregon for over 30 years. Her focus on the relationship between communication skills and the home environment derives from her intercultural marriage with an American husband living in US-constructed housing. To overcome differences between the two cultures, she creates harmony between the convenience-oriented American lifestyle and Japanese simplicity by applying feng shui. That eventually became her life's work.

She has a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the Speech Communication Department at Portland State University and two Associate of Applied Science degrees from the Gerontology and Interior Design Department at Portland Community College. She is a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) who helps older adults stay in their homes and Certified Green Professional (CGP) who advocates sustainable and environmentally friendly building principles. Both CAPS and CGP are issued by the National Association of Home Builders.

Miyoko earned a Feng Shui Practitioner Certificate in the intuitive practice of feng shui from Gisela Stehr, director and founder of the Emerald Feng Shui Institute in Seattle, Washington.

Miyoko has given workshops and presentations about Aging-in-Place for public and private organizations. She has consulted and designed for individuals and home owners of different generations.
