F. Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940) was an American writer most famous for his tales of 1920’s life and culture in the Jazz Age. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Fitzgerald went to Princeton University, but left the university to join the Army in World War I. Stationed in Alabama, he met and fell in love with Zelda Sayre. They married in 1920.

Fitzgerald wrote over 164 short stories published in magazines that included the Saturday Evening Post and is the author of such famous works of American literature as Tender is the Night, This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and the Damned, and The Great Gatsby, which is considered by many to be the ‘Great American Novel’. As well, he wrote multiple screenplays for movies in Hollywood. He died in December 1940 in California after battling alcoholism for years.
