Overview

Here is where friendship and community come together. Where people, small and big, join to make a difference, one community member at a time. This is a personal story on how nutrition got lost while pursuing a career, taking care of a home, going to school, transporting my son daily to/from school, and managing extra curricular activities. "HE WAS AS BIG AS A HOUSE", is the result of a real issue combined with humor and imagination. Bringing awareness and a place to start a conversation about healthy habits.

CHAPTER 1

Gabriel didn't play outside with his friends Mitsuko, Chahna, Gorky & Oliver anymore.

One afternoon they found Gabriel surrounded by fast food. "Don't you want to play outside with us anymore?" They asked. "Yes, I do, maybe tomorrow!" He said.

The next day Oliver went back to Gabriel's house. There, lying in bed was a very big version of Gabriel. He had grown bigger.

As the days went by, he grew bigger and bigger as he continued to eat unhealthy foods, without exercising.

The next day, Gabriel was awakened, by a fire truck siren. He couldn't move his body! He had grown more over night and was popping out of his house! "Mamá, tengo miedo!" He yelled. His mother climbed up to comfort him.

The Doctor came and said, "Gabriel has eaten too much junk food, hasn't exercised, and has grown as big as a house. Feed him healthier foods, soups, green leafy vegetables, fruit, lots of water, and get plenty of exercise."

After hearing what the doctor said, his friends brainstormed ways to help him.

That morning, Chahna fed Gabriel oatmeal porridge, a slice of apple and a glass of water.

At noon, Oliver gave him a small salad, vegetable soup, and a glass of water.

It started to get dark and Mitsuko gave him a tangerine, a celery stick with almond butter, and a vegetable smoothie.
