An eye-opening, monumental biography of Prince Harry by a veteran journalist on royal affairs who accompanied the prince on his royal duties for a year and was granted privileged access to his home in Kensington Palace

Once a reckless rebel and now a respected role model, Prince Harry is one of the world's most popular royals and the force behind giving the British royal family a twenty-first century makeover. How has he done it? This insightful new biography is a three-dimensional look at what Harry is really like as a person, both on and off royal duty. It is written by distinguished journalist and author Angela Levin, who accompanied Prince Harry on many of his engagements and had exclusive access to him at Kensington Palace.

The book unwraps the real man behind the camera, and his own perceptive insights. It delves into his troubled childhood and the lasting effect of losing his adored mother-Diana, Princess of Wales-so young. It explores his rebellious teenage years and the key defining moments that have enabled him to face his demons and use this experience to help others who struggle with mental, emotional, and physical pain. Angela Levin found a complex man who has inherited his late mother's extraordinary charisma and is determined to "make a difference."

Journalist Levin (Diana’s Babies), who interviewed England’s Prince Harry for a Newsweek cover story in 2017, provides an admiring, if not all that revealing, look at the popular royal’s life from the tragic death of his mother to his romance with actress Meghan Markle. Much of the material will be familiar to anyone who has followed the history of the royal family. Levin describes Harry as a withdrawn child. Alongside his elder brother, William, he endured what Levin calls a “troubled, toxic” home life prior to the divorce of their parents in 1996 when Harry was 11; the boys had to mourn the death of their mother in the public eye the following year. Levin portrays Harry’s difficulty fitting in with his peers at Eton College boarding school, where he felt “stupid” in the shadow of his brother. She glosses over some of Harry’s rough edges—the drinking, the vandalism, the Nazi costume party attire—and posits that these were evidence of emotional disturbance rather than simple bad behavior. Levin provides fresh and nuanced coverage of the prince’s military career, his mental health issues (including frequent panic attacks), and his ideas for modernizing the institution of the royal family. This is a sympathetic glimpse of the personality and personal demons of the vulnerable man behind the handsome smile and royal title. (May)

Levin reveals the candid, wide-ranging conversations she has had with an extraordinary interview subject: Prince Harry himself. Not only does the royal share details about his relationship with his soon-to-be-wife Meghan Markle, he also explains how important it is that he remain connected to his memories of his mother Princess Diana.
