Harrisons Patch
NOVELLA. Maggie Harrison always dreamed of owning her own place, and now those twelve acres of rich Texas soil located just outside the picture-perfect town of Bradbury were hers. Along with her husband Travis, and daughter Maisy, Maggie begins to realise her dream of self-sufficiency, putting the land immediately to work, growing enough to eat, and selling the excess at farmers' markets.

Under the watchful eye of Silas Crutch, a farmer whose land shares a boundary with Harrison's Patch, Maggie learns the secrets to pumpkin growing, and as their first harvest approaches, the Harrison's must take on extra help. But when a professor from the local university uncovers evidence of a horrific crime - a crime he believes was perpetrated on their land during the Civil War - the Harrison's disregard his pleas, and ignore his warnings of a terrible curse.

As Halloween approaches; as the pumpkins ripen, and a large oak tree in the centre of the patch begins to spread its boughs, the professor becomes more convinced that the curse is about to be unleashed.

Will the residents of Bradbury be forced to atone for the sins of their ancestors? Is there any truth to a condemned man's curse? And why are the pumpkins - their seeds and their flesh - turning blood red?

About the Author

Born, raised and educated in the rural heart of England, MARK BLASDALE is an internationally celebrated and critically acclaimed author, a seasoned traveller, lecturer, biographer and historian.

A self-diagnosed coffee-addict, hopeless list-writer and self-proclaimed Spirit of Christmas, Mark’s passion for writing stems from childhood when he was introduced to the works of Charles Dickens by a family friend. Now a serious collector of antiquarian volumes himself, and with influences that include Washington Irving, Mark Twain, John Keats, O’Henry, Damon Runyon and Paul Gallico, it’s little surprise that Mark is a passionate advocate of the Novella, Literary Sketch and Short Story.

His first book, Keeping Christmas, was published in 2014. Subsequent titles include All the Year Round (latterly titled A Day in the Life of Dickens) (2014), Six Hills: Spencer Bridge (2015), Twelve Tales of Christmas (2015), Halloween Night (2016), Christmas Miscellany (2016), The Reckoning of Thaddeus Pike (2016), Harrison’s Patch (2017), About Bloody Time (2019), ReWrapped (2019), Daniel Lambert: A Life in Five Sittings (2019), Tales of a Strange and Curious sort (2020), and ReGifted (2021).
