Overview

What is it that compels us to follow our all consuming passion? Is it a search for that elusive, genuine happiness that uplifts the spirit and satisfies the soul? But why go cruising? For my husband Robert and I, it was the innate desire to explore our world, escape the rat race and cold winters, while living a truly unique lifestyle. A romantic dream enticed us to sail to warm, secluded beaches in the tropics to spend time swimming, snorkeling, and diving in aquarium-like settings, partaking of nature in its least corrupted arena. The ingenuity, perseverance, and hard work that was required by both of us to keep the dream alive and the ship in running shape, bred a mutual respect and trust that generated love and strengthened our relationship. "Harmony on the High Seas" explores the leap of faith that was required when we cast off the dock lines, and shares both a tangible and mystical view of our sailing experience.

About the Author

Virginia Gleser was born in Osaka, Japan and raised in South Korea. A child of medical missionaries, she grew up sailing on the Yellow Sea each summer. At 17, Virginia returned to the United States for college amidst the chaotic cultural upheaval of the late 1960's and later moved to San Francisco, Ca. I met my husband, Robert, in San Francisco in 1970 and along with about 300 counter culture companions, were founding members of The Farm, an intentional spiritual community in Summertown,Tennessee. We quickly grew to over 1500 members on 1750 acres in rural Tennessee where we were self sustaining and also were involved with international relief work. Twelve years and six children later [The world renowned midwives of The Farm headed by Ina May Gaskin delivered our children in our home) we resettled in California and I started my tie-dye company which helped support our family for twenty-five years before we sold it to our eldest son who has been successful with his own original designs. After our last child left for the University of California, Robert and I left San Francisco aboard our 40' Islander Freeport to sail to Mexico. For twelve years we have cruised 6 months of each year. We have traveled to through Central America to Ecuador in South American and back to Mexico. We return to the United States to be with our children and six grandchildren. Aboard Harmony we have experienced nature at its most pristine and beautiful and enjoy having our family aboard Harmony Hotel to experience our sailing lifestyle with us. "Harmony on the High Seas, When Your Mate Becomes Your Matey" is my third book in print and I have several more books in the works.
