Description: This is an encyclopedia with all the noninvasive methods used in clinical research for quantifying and qualifying sweat, sebum, cell migration, cell desquamation, pigment changes and everything else you might imagine. The discussions are aimed at scientists and researchers. It is an excellent reference if you are serious about understanding the methodologies and analyses of studies presented in the dermatology journals. If you are interested in doing basic science or clinical dermatology research you will certainly want to have this reference.
Purpose: The purpose of the book is to present a detailed overview of all the non-surgical modalities available to study changes in the skin, hair, and nails.
Audience: The audience is researchers and scientists in dermatology.
Features: The strength of the book is its exhaustive coverage of scientific techniques used to analyze the skin. The book is extremely technical and one does need to have a good understanding of physics, mathematics, and physiology to take full advantage of the information. There are numerous photographs of the measuring devices and graphs. Having an engineering background would be helpful for interpreting the calculations and the more technical discussions on thermal imaging skin elasticity.
Assessment: I am unaware of any other book that accomplishes what this book does. It is a second edition. Given how rapidly the field changes, an updated reference is extremely valuable.
