About the Author

Dr. Surya Santoso (Austin, TX) is an Associate Professor at the University of Texas. He earned MSE and PhD degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in electrical engineering. Dr. Santoso's research interests are in electric power quality and wind power systems. His most significant contributions are in pioneering and advancing the engineering science of root-cause analysis of electric power quality disturbance phenomena, education of electric power quality, and in the time-domain modeling and simulation of electromagnetic transients and wind power systems for integration studies. While working in the industry, he was a principal investigator for over twenty industrial and utility studies in power quality and wind power integration. His research in academia has been supported by EPRO, TVA, ONR, NSF, NREL, Electrotek, and Manitoba HVDC Research Center.

H. Wayne Beaty was managing editor of Electric Light and Power and distribution editor for Electrical World magazine. He has also worked for the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the West Texas Utilities Company, and the Houston Lighting & Power Company. Beaty is editor of the Standard Handbook of Electrical Engineering and coauthor of Electric Power Systems Quality, Third Edition (McGraw-Hill). He is Senior Member of the IEEE.

Surya Santoso, Ph.D., is an associate professor at the University of Texas. His research interests are in electric power quality and wind power systems. Dr. Santoso is coauthor of Electrical Power Systems Quality, Third Edition.
