CHAPTER 1
Have you ever seen a giraffe that is short?
If you do, you might giggle and chuckle, then snort!
Poor Half the Giraffe, she was born a bit small.
All her friends and her family were tall ... very tall.
And the others her age just kept growing in length.
They were longer and taller; they had greater strength.
Little Half couldn't reach the green leaves in the tree.
To have a long neck and long legs is the key.
The others made sure Half was always well fed,
By dropping the yummy green leaves on her head.
Half wished she could reach the green leaves on her own,
So she thought of some ways she might do it alone.
First, she tried to climb up on a very high stool,
But she tumbled down hard, and she felt like a fool.
Next, that little giraffe put on four high heel shoes,
But she stumbled and tripped, and she got a big bruise.
