Gulliver's Travels: (Illustrated) With Accompanying Facts, 11 Illustrations and a Free Audio Link
Gullivers Travels recounts the story of Lemuel Gulliver, a practical-minded Englishman trained as a surgeon who takes to the seas when his business fails. He heads out on a fateful voyage to the South Seas when he becomes ship wrecked after a terrible storm. He washes up on an island inhabited by a large population of tiny people who are around six inches tall and are fiercely protective of their lands. They capture Gulliver but realize in time that the giant newcomer to their lands is useful to them. However, after an unfortunate event involving a fire in the Royal Palace and Gulliver's urine, his relationship with his tiny "hosts" turns sour and Gulliver finds himself needing to escape the island in fear of his life. Gulliver narrates the adventures that befall him on these travels.
The book became popular as soon as it was published in 1726. John Gay (a well respected English poet and dramatist of that time) wrote in a letter to Swift that "It is universally read, from the cabinet council to the nursery." Since then, it has never been out of print.
