Gram's KOLACHE Recipe ~ Homemade YEAST Pastry ~ Cottage Cheese & Apricot Filling
Gram's KOLACHE Recipe ...
This handwritten recipe was also in the old cookbook that I just found. My grandmother was from Virginia (and her parents were from Germany and Austria), but my Uncle George was married to Aunt Irene (who was Polish). I remember Aunt Irene bringing apricot kolache whenever she came to visit, and I LOVED those! So, I suppose this is really Aunt Irene's recipe, not Gram's:) Anyway, they're little puffy yeast pastries, with a dent in the center filled with either cottage cheese or apricot filling, then dusted with powdered sugar. (Actually, there's a prune filling too, but I remember that no one liked that one, so I didn't include it:)
