These satellite navigation aids, once exotic military and maritime technology, are now available for around $100 and are showing up in places like car dashboards, backpacks, boats, and even pants pockets. This solid, informative handbook deals with the recreational uses of GPS units, including a new sport called geocacheing that involves leaving small keepsakes or treasures at locations subsequently posted to a web site; hunters must use their GPS skills to locate the treasure. The authors explain how the technology works and give an overview of what units are available for what price.
