Overview

Enter a world of the macabre and the mysterious, from witches to werewolves, demons to dragons, a world where a beautiful kind of darkness prevails. Gothic visions vary wildly, whether set against a backdrop
of pointed arches and flying buttresses, imbued with Victorian lace and melodrama, edgy with Tim Burton-esque whimsy, or bewitched by dark-eyed enigmas. Now Gothic
Art
explores these intriguing themes through a fabulous  range of stunning artworks. After a foreword from well-known journalist and author on all things Goth, Mick Mercer, musing on the evolution of Gothic art and lifestyle, discover exactly what this word
means and how its medieval roots are far from the weird and wonderful Gothic imaginings of today. Trace the journey from Victorian Gothic literature to all the characters, creatures and creations found in the Gothic art of today: Vampires, Witches & Enigmas, Death & Demons, Gothic Monsters, Quirky Gothic and Eerie Visions. Along side this, discover artworks by a host of exciting artists, some well-established and some newly blazing a trail, but all with
their own distinct style – including Aly Fell, Anne Stokes, Cris Ortega, Jasmine Beckett-Griffith, Brom, Natalie Shau, Tara McPherson and Anne Sudworth. Much of the work that features in the book was created in digital media, reflecting the use of the most up-to-date methods. Also included are feature spreads showcasing artists’ step-by-step stages leading to final pieces, revealing invaluable tips on technique. Gothic Art is an essential title for anyone who is passionate about the skill and imagination of top-class artists and the boundless imagination of the dark and haunted mind.
