About the Author

Rick Nelson served two combat tours in Vietnam during that war. He is rated 70% disabled by the VA for PTSD as a result, in addition to other combat related disabilities. His PTSD did not surface immediately, instead it lurked in him until he faced another stressful situation which immediately put him mentally back in Vietnam. He sought help, and then participated in one on one, once a week, counseling in the Vet Center system for over five years before he really got a a handle on his PTSD. His PTSD was complicated by alcoholism. The treatment he went through helped him stop drinking after an inpatient alcohol treatment program. He is still going in for additional help as he sometimes feels the need, "tune ups" as he calls them. He believes there is no cure... but, there are successful ways available to calm things down and ways to learn to live with that PTSD in the long term.
