At the turn of the 18th century, when two members of the Royal Spanish Academy, librarian don Hermógenes Molina and admiral don Pedro Zárate, were assigned by their coworkers to travel to Paris in order to obtain in a secretive manner all 28 volumes of the Encyclopaedia of D'Alembert and Diderot, which was outlawed in Spain, nobody could foresee that these two academics would face an extremely dangerous sequence of machinations, a journey full of uncertainty and fright, which would lead them, through paths full of robbers and uncomfortable lodgings and inns, from Charles III's enlightend Madrid to Parisian cafés, salons, philosophical circles of conversation, libertine life and political unrest of the French Revolution.
