Overview

Highly successful and ambitious physicians from St. Matt's Hospital in Manhattan are dying one at a time under suspicious circumstances as a mob war rages in the background over control of contracts to renovate the Brooklyn Bridge. John Cesari MD, a gastroenterologist with close ties to the underworld and currently the medical director of St. Matt's, is aiding the police investigation into the deaths of his colleagues while helping a good friend work his way through marital problems. Juggling these multiple complex and emotionally charged crises proves taxing, and Cesari finds himself fighting off a dysfunctional surgical staff and simultaneously defending himself from the inevitable political infighting that has become synonymous with modern healthcare. Behind the scenes, three mysterious women with dark and desperate pasts are pulling the strings of intrigue like master puppeteers. From beginning to end, nothing is what it seems, and no one is safe in this exciting thriller.

About the Author

John Avanzato was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. He attended Fordham University undergraduate eventually going on to the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. He is a practicing gastroenterologist in upstate New York where he resides with his wife of more than thirty years. Hostile Hospital was his first foray into the world of creative writing. He now has published fifteen full-length novels which have been well-received and has established himself as an author of medical thrillers revolving around the exploits of his singularly unique main character, John Cesari, a former gangster turned doctor. Avanzato affectionately refers to his works as being a new type of genre, the Gastro-Noir, and his protagonist as being the "James Bond" of colonoscopy. Inspired by authors like Tom Clancy, David Baldacci, Mickey Spillane, John Grisham, and Lee Child, Avanzato writes about strong but flawed heroes.
