GLIMPSES IN PLANT RESEARCH: Aspects of Energy and Environment Studies

The Series "Glimpses in Plant Research" was concieved with the aim of providing a forum for the publications of plant reviews and monographs, on selected topics, with a definite theme for each volume. The present volume contains 3 articles relating to Energy and environment studies. Chapter 1, deals with the Micro-propogation of crop plants. Besides evaluating the current status of higher plant propagation through tissue culture, problematic areas requiring further research have been highlighted, so that the advantages of the technique namely, economy of time and space and freedom from seasonal constraints can be exploited commercially by plant propagators, and at the same time the researchers are provided with new information. Chapter2, deals with aquatic flora in relation to water pollution. Plants are reliable indices for pollution monitoring and the review of the literature in the area of aquatic pollution provides a new base for further research in the subject for practical applications in pollution control. Chapter 3, deals with another aspect of environment studies of the Himalyas, where the conifers are a dominent constituent. Besides providing information on the distribution of the various conifers, an insight into the pattern of occurrence of genetic resource Provenances, has been made, which provide a base for conifer breeding for better wood. The work is of immense use to the foresters, and students of Botany. The volume shall cater to a wide variety of interests covered in many areas of research teaching, commerce and industry among which may be mentioned biotechnology, agriculture, forestry, floriculture and pollution. 1986, 27*17cm.
