Overview

For a new mom, taking care of a newborn baby can be very overwhelming. Here are some great tips to help you through:

You should start breastfeeding your newborn an hour after delivery. The breast milk produced in the first 3 days after giving birth is particularly healthy for the baby. Breast milk should be adequate food for the baby in the first 4-6 months of his life. This should provide him with sufficient nutrition and the right amount of immunity which his body needs.

Newborn babies wake up when it is time for feeding and when he/she is wet and needs a diaper change. Other than these times, an infant is mostly asleep. If there is no immediate reason to wake up the baby, then you should see to it that your baby's sleep is not interrupted at all. A baby who is fully fed can go to sleep on his own without much trouble. Most will just need to be laid down on the bed and can be left alone to sleep without being rocked or cradled.

A newborn baby should be protected from extreme changes in temperature. It is important that the baby's room temperature is comfortably warm and the air is clean and free from micro-organisms that will affect his health extremely.

When choosing toys, make sure that they stimulate his senses and encourage him to explore and develop his motor skills. Educational toys will ultimately show each child's personality.
