Ghosts on the Coast: A Visit to Savannah and the Low Country
It seems wherever they go, adventure follows the Johnson family. Fourteen-year-old Joey, ten-year-old Bobby, and five-year-old Katy visit three historic Southern cities on their end-of-summer vacation. Not only do they learn about the challenges of the early settlers, the boldness of greedy pirates, and the determination shown by feisty women who helped save some of the architectural heritage of Savannah and Charleston, but they also encounter numerous ghost stories. When Bobby finds himself in a dangerous situation on Pawleys Island, South Carolina, can he depend on a legendary ghost for help? Young readers won't know they're learning history; they'll only know they're having fun as they follow these kids on their latest adventure.

About The Author
Jane R. Wood has always loved history. It started with her early years growing up in Astoria, Oregon, and continued when her family moved to Cocoa, Florida, near the Kennedy Space Center when she was ten. She has lived in Northeast Florida for more than thirty years and enjoys exploring the historic and cultural heritage of Southern cities like Savannah and Charleston. Her passion for writing began in the 4th grade during a poetry unit when she discovered the magic of words. She wrote her first juvenile fiction book, "Voices in St. Augustine," in 2004. In 2007, "Adventures on Amelia Island: A Pirate, A Princess and Buried Treasure" was published, and "Trouble on the St. Johns River" was released in 2008. Wood has also been a middle school and high school English teacher, a newspaper reporter and a television producer.
