Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal

Gr 2-4-Geronimo Stilton is a mouse with a nose for adventure. As editor of New Mouse City's The Rodent's Gazette, Geronimo gets to share the details of his many adventures. Often accompanied by his sister Thea, cousin Trap, and nephew Benjamin, Geronimo finds adventure wherever he goes. In Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye, Geronimo and his family set off on a quest to find the secret treasure marked on a mysterious map. In The Curse of the Cheese Pyramid, Geronimo is sent to Egypt to interview the famous archeologist Alrat Spitfur about the Great Cheese Pyramid. While there, Spitfur takes Geronimio into the cursed pharaoh's tomb beginning another grand adventure. In Cat and Mouse in a Haunted House, Geronimo, a self proclaimed fraidy-mouse, finds himself stuck alone in a dark forest on a stormy October night. Things look up when Geronimo finds a castle to take shelter in, but he soon discovers that cats haunt the castle. Narrator Edward Herrmann gives each character an individual voice, instilling the eager, inquisitive qualities of true adventurers into each mouse. However, almost constant background music and sound effects undermine the quality storytelling, frequently overpowering the narration. Herrmann's narration alone would have been much more effective.
