Overview

I first heard about Gene Nida at the Complutense University of Madrid in 1983. My professors considered him a great linguist and the best translation scholar of the XX century.

I admired deeply his books, fruit of the fieldwork he realized in more than 100 countries teaching how to translate the Bible and studying more than 200 languages and cultures. But the real impact I received was when I attended his lecture at the same University in 1994. At the end of it, the fascinated audience stood up yelling Qu to! as if he was a movie star. He was a unique communicator.

Then I had the opportunity of attending more of his lectures in Brussels and again in Madrid. Little by little I discovered that, a part of being a number one scholar, he was also an example of Christian living, having dedicated all his existence to help others.

He was incredibly intelligent, tender, joyful, and he had the most beautiful blue eyes I had ever seen in my life. How not to fall for him?

I followed him in his lectures in different countries, and eventually in Segovia, Spain, he started showing interest for me.

The rest was a fairy tale. We got married in Savannah, Georgia, and every day of our life together I discovered more of his fascinating personality, of his fantastic culture and of his dedication to other people.
