Overview

The Gallagher brothers had been working the land as their ancestors had for generations but now it was no longer theirs and breaking the English law meant certain death. Their only way out was to escape to the new world, but there was only enough money for Alexander and his family.
In the New World Alexander never gave up his dream of owning his own land, it was a dream that drove him night and day. It was the Homestead Act that finally provided him with a way of fulfilling that dream. There was land for the taking in the west and that was where he was heading. Taking a wife and seven young boys across the country was no small feat, but nothing would deter him.
California was his destination but a chance stopping in the Arizona Territory changed that. It was land that reminded him of his families land along the Lennon River in Kilmacrennan and he knew he had to stop there and have that land.
The land qualified for the Homestead Act and as they sat up to build their dream they found that there was another man who wanted the land as well. Although the homestead claim was binding it required that the land be occupied and improved on for five years and that was something that Daniel Chandler was not prepared to let happen
The Gallagher Boys would have to fight to keep their land and it was a fight that got nasty. Men were going to die but the Gallaghers were not going to give up the land.
