These complex constructions, comprising sculpted figures and architectural framing, were set up in huge numbers during the years around 1600 and thousands still survive in parish churches across England. This is the first comprehensive account of the subject for over fifty years. The volume is lavishly illustrated with rare photographs and offers a valuable and informative record of one of England's greatest treasures.
