Overview

Experimental psychologists also make greater use of animal subjects because of the case with which experiments can be performed on them. Most of modern psychology is actually the systematisation and application of the various psychological laws and principles discovered by experimental psychologists. It is in this sense that the experimental psychology is engaged in the fundamental research in behaviour. It should be, however, noted that today the use of experimental method is extended to social psychology, abnormal psychology and many other subfields of psychology. Social psychology is the scientific study of how people's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. By this definition, scientific refers to the empirical method of investigation. The terms thoughts, feelings, and behaviours include all of the psychological variables that are measurable in a human being. Social psychology is mainly concerned with the influence of various social forces on the behaviour of an individual. Or, put in simple words, it is concerned with the behaviour of man as a member of social groups. Social psychology has a close affinity with sociology, which studies group structure and the formal characteristics of various groups. The present effort to present students of this branch of sociology, that is, social psychology, contains a clear text and methodological analyses of the vital aspects. It puts social entities such as neighborhood, community, region, ethnicity, assimilation, cultural identity, and public government interface in the appropriate perspective.
