I wrote this series of short stories in an attempt to show others that addiction is
very real. Many struggle on a daily basis with addiction themselves or with someone they love. These short stories are my hope for others to see that either what they are going through, or witnessing, shows them they are not alone. The main characters in these stories, Sally, Amber, and Roger, may all be fictitious, but what these characters go through in dealing with their mental illnesses and causing them to self-medicate hopefully show readers that addicts' intentions are not to ruin their lives. Sally struggles with anxiety, and as a college student, the stress with her very first semester of finals became too stressful for her causing her to fall on a slippery slope while losing her very best friend. Amber meets the man of her dreams while in her senior year of high school. After discussing her history of drug addiction, he decides to marry her after graduation. When she becomes so stressed out from being a mother to a young child, she runs into some old friends who help her fall back into her own ways putting her marriage in jeopardy. Roger struggles with an addiction to pills. When he finds out he is going to be a father, it does not stop him from moving on to other relationships. When he finds a woman who thinks she can help him with his struggles, they decide to get married. She finds out she is pregnant which then causes Roger to become more stressed out as he has not been working. He begins finding family members to get pills from for free when his fiancé finds out causing her to get an attorney involved regarding their future child. These stories are meant to show that addiction can cause a downward spiral in the addicts' personal life that they did not set out to have happen to them.
