Free Advice (And Worth Every Penny) - A Collection of SharePoint 2010 Blog Posts
Todd Klindt has been blogging about SharePoint for several years now. His mom claims his blog is the best on the Internet. This book covers his blog posts on SharePoint 2010. As his blog is open to the world, he considers it free advice. And you know what they say about free advice, it's worth every penny you paid for it. In this book Todd covers 43 blog posts on SharePoint 2010. The posts are broken down into five parts:
Installation
Battling the User Profile Service
Stuff about SQL
PowerShell Awesomeness
Posts That Didn't Go Anywhere Else

Each post gets its own chapter, its own little moment in the sun. Along with each blog post he provides background on what inspired him to write the post. Then he covers what he's learned since he originally published the post. Finally each chapter ends with the comments left about the post on his blog. While not always helpful, sometimes the comments are quite funny.
Since the bulk of this content is already available on the Internet, during the rare moments when Todd's blog is available, Todd threw in an extra chapter to sweeten the deal. Chapter 44, "Todd’s Top Twelve Troubleshooting Tips" is all new and original for the book. It won't appear on his blog for at least 60 days after the book comes out. This chapter contains 12 techniques Todd uses when trying to ferret out SharePoint problems. Plus the chapter title has alliteration and every man, woman, and child loves alliteration.

Todd's writing style is both informational and entertaining. What this book lacks in refined humor it makes up for in good SharePoint administrative content.

About the Author

Todd has been a professional computer nerd for over 15 years, specializing in SharePoint for the last 10 years. His love affair with SharePoint began one slow day at the office when he discovered SharePoint Team Services 1.0 on the Office XP CD that was holding up his coffee cup, and decided to install it. The rest is history. In 2006 he was honored to be awarded the MVP award from Microsoft for Windows SharePoint Services. He has had the pleasure of working with SharePoint farms both large small. He has written several books and magazine articles on SharePoint. Todd has presented sessions on SharePoint at many major conferences both in the United States as well as Europe and Asia and does the user group circuit, SharePoint Saturday events, and the occasional children’s birthday party as well. He is currently working his dream job as a SharePoint consultant at Rackspace where he spends his days fixing broken SharePoint environments and bringing new SharePoint environments into the world.
