Luna’s best friend, Franklin, is a dragon. Together, they love to read stories about everything from trampolining to deep- sea diving. One day, while they are reading about fascinating creatures and their origins, Franklin begins to wonder where he is from. He is 605 years old and has no idea where to find other dragons.

Luna suggests that they go on an adventure to find his family. They Google his family tree, they e-mail a princess for his parents’ address, and along the way they find twenty yetis eating spaghetti, five vampires reading Shakespeare, and discodancing unicorns . . . but no dragons. One night it dawns on Luna that they should travel to the moon to see if there are any dragons there, so Franklin rockets them into space. When they land, they are met by Franklin’s long- lost dragon family for a heart- warming reunion.

About the Author

Jen Campbell is a Sunday Times bestselling author and award-winning poet. She is the author of ten published books of nonfiction, poetry, short stories, and children’s books. Jen specializes in the history of fairy tales and the representation of disfigurement, giving guest lectures at universities, museums, and book festivals on this topic. Her video installation on the history of fairy tales is currently part of an exhibition at Suffolk University, Boston, MA. Jen’s YouTube channel, which has over 57,000 subscribers, includes popular vlogs on the history of fairy tales.

Katie Harnett is an illustrator with an MA in children’s book illustration from the Cambridge School of Art. She won the 2015 Ars in Fabula Award and is the author of Archie Snufflekins Oliver Valentine Cupcake Tiberius Cat.

A search for long-lost family sends best friends into outer space…and beyond!

Luna loves nothing more than to read adventure stories "all night long, curled up with her tortoise, Neil Armstrong." Her best friend, Franklin, who happens to be a large green dragon, also loves to read. The two of them have read about all kinds of fantastical creatures, and now they want to explore all the places they've read about. They'll start by searching for Franklin's family; he's 605 and has never met any of them. They don't know where to look, so they go just about everywhere, meeting nymphs and pixies and vampires and scores of other creatures. Then Luna spots something interesting far away in the sky. She tickles Franklin's nose and he sneezes a blue flame, sending them impossibly high in the air. Suddenly Franklin remembers this place; he's from the moon. They land, and dozens of silver dragons come out to greet them. They all sing songs and share stories until it's time for Luna and Franklin to go back home. Campbell endearingly captures the excitement of reading, but her text unfolds in a stutter-step rhyme scheme that may pose a challenge to those reading aloud. Hartnett's dreamy illustrations are full of soft shapes and warm colors, depicting Luna as white with a diverse background cast.
