About the Author

In the 1970’s Franco Gaskin moved to Harlem. He donated artwork to various organizations and institutions. Coincidentally various store owners east and west on 125th street installed unsightly and oppressive security gates. Franco saw this as an opportunity. Store owners approved him painting creative images on the gates.

For over 40 years his creative artistry mesmerized the audiences that were privileged to see his creative artwork on over 200 gates on 125th street. Millions of foreign tourists, Americans and especially Harlemites were mesmerized by his magnificent creative artwork. They saw Harlem come alive with images that depicted and represented the phenomenal accomplishment of African Americans creative, inventive and business initiatives.
