About the Author

Karen E. Smith is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow of the School of History, Archaeology and Religion, Cardiff University, Wales, UK. Originally from Georgia and an ordained Baptist minister, she was awarded a doctorate in 1986 from Oxford University for her research in Baptist history. After teaching in the USA, she returned to Britain in 1991. As both a university lecturer and the pastor of a Baptist church in Wales, she has been primarily concerned with the area of Christian formation for ministry, and she has written widely in the areas of church history and Christian spirituality.
