Over the years, the communities of the Richloam area saw many people call it home. Unfortunately, with the passing winds of time, many of their stories and history has been lost or forgotten. There were several families that had a large impact on Richloam. Some are just names on a federal census, but some have made it through the trials of time. Each person and family that called Richloam home did not have an easy go at life. There were no paved roads, no electricity, no indoor plumbing and a very limited general store for supplies. This is their story.

About the Author

Eric Burkes was born in Florida and raised in Richloam, Florida. Living on the same property he grew up on, he started his law enforcement career with the Florida Department of Corrections. Eric would later become a Deputy for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, where he retired as a K-9 Deputy. In 2016, Eric renovated and reopened the Richloam General Store, adding it to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
