Overview

In November 2021, disaster struck the Sumas Prairie in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. A massive, heavy rainfall made land causing floods and mudslides – destroying homes, livelihoods and lives. Flood is a firsthand account of one woman's experience on her family's chicken farm, before, during and after the flood. The events unfold moment-to-moment through journal entries that detail the intense physical and mental impact of the disaster as the author works to save her farm.

Flood is a true story of both crisis and resilience. It teaches us that when challenges happen, they can be overcome with strength from within.

About the Author

Nicole Kooyman has always enjoyed writing. She kept a journal during the surreal flood of 2021 as she realized she was living through a “once in a lifetime” experience. Writing this book has allowed her to share her experience, follow her passion and share some wisdom: When it feels like it can’t get any worse, and then it does, keep going and trust that you can make it through.

Nicole lives on a farm in Abbotsford, British Columbia, with her husband, three children, three dogs, one cat – and a lot of chickens.
