Overview

How many of your opinions are grounded in the truth of the Bible?

I had the privilege of having someone older mentor me in the faith for several years. He would often ask me direct, almost confrontational, questions, like, "What is the gospel?" "Do you have the Holy Spirit?" "What is your role as a husband and father?"

At first, I simply responded to these questions with my thoughts and opinions. But then he would ask me how I knew what I thought I knew. I began to learn that some of my opinions weren't coming from the Bible, but from what I felt or what I had read or heard somewhere.

There is a vast difference between having opinions or feelings about something, and being established in the truths of the Bible. Faith doesn't come from opinions, but from the Word of Christ (Romans 10:17). First Things: Surveying the Basics of the Bible is designed to help people know what God has said about himself, themselves, the world they live in, and the world to come. This book will help readers become established in their faith and equip them to help others do the same.
