Overview

A BAD DAY...

... GETS WORSE

Josh Bronsky is whisked off to the world of Lumira in a dune buggy stolen right out of the school parking lot.

His accomplice is the stubborn Isabel, better known as the Sock Princess. This whole fiasco is her fault.

A strange man warns Josh about an upcoming battle, and tells him about the firedust, dragon-skin, and other magical things that Josh needs to heroically defeat an evil agent. But Josh doesn’t believe in magic. He doesn’t want any of this hero business. He just wants to get home. When a thief steals the dune buggy, Josh is forced into hard labor. Can he and Isabel overcome captivity, blisters, bad food, and mutual dislike so they can stop the evil plans?

Firedust is ideal for children ages 8-12, but has appealed to younger children and grown-ups, too. Readers get caught up in the adventure of Josh Bronsky, and can relate to his ordinary struggles even though they take place in a very extraordinary location.

About the Author

Katherine Emmons has been writing since she was a child. She began writing her own fantasy after reading everything available in her middle school library about three times, including titles from C.S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, J. R. R. Tolkien, and E. Nesbit. Her fantasy reading and writing was accompanied by much classroom daydreaming. Dreaming about castles inspired her to go live in Europe at age 16, where she attended a German high school and indeed visited many castles.

Back in the USA, Katherine finally learned how to be a good high school student (sit up front and pay attention!), and eventually earned a PhD in Education. Along with writing and other creative activities, she devotes many hours to her own students, who know her as Dr. Kate. She still loves to travel, and she has also lived in the Caribbean, Central America, and Africa.

Katherine loves the outdoors and nature, flora and fauna, mountains and beaches. She divides her days between homes in Southern California and South Africa, spending as much time as she can with her husband and two sons.
