Fire circle
Ivan Bagryaniy (1906–1963) is a writer whose creative output reached his compatriots only many years after his death. Repressed in 1932, exiled to the Far East, he escaped, was arrested again, and emigrated to Germany. An important phenomenon in Ukrainian literature is his novel "A Man Running over the Abyss" and the novel "Circle of Fire", which take place during the Second World War. The main characters of these works are ordinary Ukrainians who are trying to fight against the world of violence represented by two totalitarian systems - the Soviet and the Nazi. In 1992, the writer was posthumously awarded the National Prize named after T. G. Shevchenko.
