Narrator Carol Monda handles this fifth Sea Haven novel impressively, bringing insight and balance to a heady tale of obsession and redemption. As glassblower Lissa Pinner travels across Europe, ostensibly for work, no one knows her secrets, or her desperate need for revenge—except Casmir Prakenskii, a trained assassin assigned as Lissa’s bodyguard. He’s a man with many secrets who tempts Lissa in ways she’s never imagined. Monda calmly navigates Feehan’s purple prose, making the searing scenes feel taut and engaging, though it does mean that some of the more subtle emotional development is occasionally overlooked. She easily manages the characters’ accents and emotions, particularly Casmir’s increasing intensity towards Lissa. Monda methodically raises the stakes and draws in listeners with every scene.
