This first novel in our series tells the story of how a sweet little old lady gets mixed up in a man's death. There he is, deader'n a railroad spike right outside her door.
You see, what used to be a parish school grades K-8 umpteen years ago is now a building full of condos where this lady lives, classrooms turned into living space. Former students and teachers were the first to get invited to live here.
Now she's at the center of rumors that can pop up quicker than a fly at a Baptist picnic. To begin with, the parish is losing money and is headed for the tank, then Father Will arrives. This drop-dead-gorgeous wizard with numbers comes up with the idea of a Celebrity Auction to bring in some cash. All set until there's the mysterious death throwing everything off, word gets out, and one particular former student turned underground film celebrity offers to help. Known as Annabelle Beaulieu, she's longtime friends with the old lady and Will thinks it's her insight that helps solve the mystery. I say it was the feather boa and take-no-prisoners red stilettos.
In the rectory, there's the housekeeper Mary Lou and elder priest Father Jack who were the first to let this street cat in. Old Jack just tolerates me and I give the housekeeper a hard time, backtalk and all, but she knows nothing about it. Will, on the other hand, understands everything I say, mostly inappropriate which cracks him up, or makes him blush and then I put on my most innocent face.
