I really liked this book, which tells the story of hopes and fears, tragedies and achievements.
Tony Benn

It was a fantastic read, all the characters are extremely well rounded and believable and by the end you are glued to it because you just have to know what happens next in their lives. It can be sad, funny and filled with suspense all within a few pages. Highly recommended...
ElaineG (Amazon Top Reviewer)

Truly an amazing book which unites history, psychology, and gender identity issues in an amazingly engaging story...

About the Author

A former actress, Sally Patricia Gardner formed her own touring company in the 1970's. She describes the venture as 'great fun, but sadly, only mildly lucrative'. In the 1980's a lifelong passion for animals led her to build and run Spikes Island, a highly successful boarding cattery. Early in the millennium, asked to write a short piece for a local magazine, she continued writing only to find that the article had turned into her first novel, Lillian's Story, One Woman's Journey through the 20th Century. Astounded and delighted by its success, she has since written The Sweetest Empire, Painting by Numbers, and Finding Cordelia. All four novels are now available on Amazon Kindle and in paperback.
Sally is at present writing her fifth novel, and is proud to be Chair of Shorelink Community Writers,a long-standing and thriving writers group in Hastings, which believes that laughter is essential to the creative process.
Sally lives in rural Sussex with her husband, Roland, also a writer, and assorted rescued animals. Their daily walk with their dogs in the woods nearby is an important part of their lives, although they could do without Bengy the spaniel's penchant for going off and leaving them gnashing their teeth while they wait for him to reappear!
