Drake delivers a fast-paced and endearing fifth True Heroes romantic thriller (after Total Bravery) featuring a cast full of memorable characters—human and canine alike. When Jason Landon, a soldier of fortune doing perimeter guard duty for an enormous and mysterious compound in Hawaii, discovers his employers’ real business is in flesh-peddling, he permits the authorities to get into the site, incurring the traffickers’ wrath. K9 handler Arin Siri and her trained German Shepherd, King, are part of the team exploring the site when she encounters Jason’s unconscious body. Eager for the information he can provide, Arin offers him her help and protection. He’s willing to take any risk to ease his conscience and help Arin in her quest, especially when the traffickers threaten her little sister. Arin and Jason share a strong work ethic, but their fierce chemistry quickly raises the stakes of their mission. Drake manages the troubling subject matter in this story with sensitivity and provides two earnest, honest protagonists to delight series fans and newcomers alike.
